This wonderful shrub is sometimes called the American Forsythia for it's lovely flowers, which are look like Forsythia's and likewise bloom early (April). The leaves are fragrant when crushed making Spicebush Deer-resistant and providing yellow fall color. Additionally females will produce brilliant Red berries when males are nearby. Spicebush serves as the host plant for the Spicebush Swallowtail caterpillar Ht. 6-10 ft. (Sun to Shade)
